Hi GZ great minds and all that my first visit back to the thread also.

Yeah on the oil if the castrol is sold at supercheap et al or at the nissan dealer they are more often a mass consumer grade of diesel oil...it's horses for coarse's but with the price of Dello 400 it seals the deal, it's a true dinky di big rig/road train engine oil and rated for those duties.....to find a better diesel oil out there one needs to step up a shell full synth at 3x the cost and even then it returns very much the same to marginally better oil analysis returns than the dello...unsure but doubt if anything much about oils has where it matters changed in the last 3 years that is not just more oil marketing drivel...except the newer higher ratings (but possibly lower protective quality's) of oils suited to the new soft diesel engines.

I went through the investigating LPG injection too...in the end I decided it was largely too boutique in all that it offered, the fuel efficiency numbers from real people in real life just didn't add up to like marketed...although the increase in power did more or less....jury was slightly out at the time on earlyness (because injected into the airflow not with the diesel) of LPG ignition and to what extent this might hammer bearings over time...certainly no 4.2s had done 400k km on the systems then ...probably owners of those systems in the patrols are still actually guinea pigs even if they do not know it.

I decided I will do much better all around fitting a good higher performance turbo kit...but I was going to source bits and pieces from many sources and fit it myself.....I never did do it but I might one day I dunno.

Fuel economy depends how what you use it for...best case is to take it to a diesel tuner with a dyno and let him have at it...tell him you want economy and he can dial that in but uless the economy problem was from a fault then the most effective way to increase fuel economy is to turn the fuel down....this also decreases performance, I used to tune my 4.2 for towing to get more power and then change it for around town economy....turning the fuel up or down is quite quick easy on the non electronic 4.2s at least ...forget about the electronic versions now.

Hope I helped some...the 4.2 patrols where an enigma, nissan did everything wrong by staying old school with a big drivetrain and tough suspension/etc...the wives would every time pick the cruisers new over the patrols and so would I for 20 years already if I only ever used it for towing on the tarmac or any other general sealed road duties...they excel here...the patrols do nothing on the sealed road very well but when well away from those roads the odds of getting all the way back home untroubled are everytime on the patrols side and by a big margin as big a margin as the cruisers are the better generally better sealed road vehicle to own.

Better go...way to long already, enjoy your holiday season too GZ, we have planned a few 30 minutes drives to a few picnic/swimming hole spots beside a river that only the harder 4wds bother to reach...gotta love it, it's like the population of any region suddenly decreases by 90%....95% if one considers also those that don't want to scratch their car getting in or out.
