Proportion of holdings in one stock is a difficult issue. I have a loose rule of thumb ok limiting individual stocks to 10% (higher for LIC's which have their own spread) but in fact the recent collapse in price prompted me to 'top-up' so that I now have a little over 11%. My holding is actually about 1% higher than 11% becaue my 60% of DIY fund holdings in LIC's will probably average around 1% in QBE.
I also have 4 speculatives that add to nearly 10%
When QBE reaches $14 again (and it will) I will reassess my percentage holdings. By then QBE will be well up on the current 12% (approx). My problem is that I have trouble selling a stock that I believe will hit $20 and higher within 3 years.
