with the dismass state of affairs at vdm group during the latter part of 2012, would like to see a little more to get the sharepirce looking more healthy from our board- this was posted on their own website on the 18/12/2012, yet not any word on here or furthermore, no company update-might be some old news rehashed, but anything would do to try and show they are being proactive

VDM to help improve flood immunity in Queensland

VDM was recently given the go ahead to commence work on a $50 million upgrade of the Bruce Highway between Sandy Corner and Collinsons Lagoon, north of Ayr, in Queensland.

On 17th December, VDM Executive General Manager (Eastern Operations), Bob Gregg, attended a special event to declare the project open, with key aspects of the project announced by Australian Senator for Queensland, Jan McLucas.

Mr Gregg and Ms McLucas along with State Member for Burdekin, Rosemary Menkens, and Burdekin Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Bill Lowis, turned the first sod on site to symbolise the project’s commencement.

The upgrades include the construction of over 3.2 kilometres of new, national network-standard highway and will reconstruct and widen existing sections.

“The end result will be significant improvements to safety, efficiency and reliability for passenger and freight movement on the Bruce Highway,” Ms McLucas said.

When completed, the road will provide safer overtaking opportunities, separation of road and cane rail infrastructure, and improvements to intersections and accesses to local roads. The project will take around 18 months with completion due by mid-2014, weather permitting.

The reconstruction and upgrade is a federal government commitment under the Nation Building Program (2008/09 – 2013/14) with a $40 million contribution committed by the Australian Government and $10 million from the Queensland Government.
