Hey Kincella....interesting story. I have just "enjoyed" a massive late change in my career too. I was unfortunately lampooned recently by a previous company I was contracted to...they used a contractual restraint clause to close me down.
So I as well am starting out again from scratch, and, am working a part time job on weekends to give some income while I rebuild.

I don't have the luxury of time either...but sensible goals and discipline are the prerequisites to success I believe. I plan to have enough new business / clients by end of financial year 2013 to allow me to drop the part time job. I have built successful business for other people, it's my turn.

We are also downsizing, selling our house as there are only two of us, and moving into our investment property for a while to ease some pressure. So the current movements in the property market are of greater than normal interest.

Personally I also believe to be successful there is a necessity to have a "street wise' nature, and have a good understanding of finances and basic economics.
In my business 99.9% of my clients are SME operators and they do rely on me to have a better understanding of many business areas than they do and advise accordingly.

Hope all goes well for you...
