Mate in the USA they have pipelines all over the place and when gas is discovered it is easy to pump it to wherever. The price of oil effected the price of manufactured goods and made a lot of what they did uneconomic. This gas is making all sorts of things economic and suddenly the USA is going in a new direction. This is new stuff and it takes time.

In Australia we don't have the same pipelines, but we have the resources. That coal deposit across the bottom of the NT is one of the worlds biggest deposits.

Our villain Viktoy played with the idea if making steel but the gas from the North west shelf was too expensive. I only quote the coal deposit in the NT because it is well known. Possibly there are others closer.

Steel works are located closer to coal because it takes two tons of coal for every ton of iron ore. Pumping gas from a coal deposit in the middle of nowhere to an Iron ore deposit equally in the middle of nowhere might make sense.

From a materials handling viewpoint you are carrying out pig iron only.
60% Fe means you are not carrying 40% of weight to the coast and you have not moved one ton of coal. The worlds possible biggest coal deposit in the NT has at this moment no use but the gas, that's another question?

This is new technology in early days. Already the USA is going in a new direction.

As for way into the future, is the technology under 10 years old and is it allready changing America. We tend to follow what the Americans do and guess what there is no one to complain in the bottom third of the NT
