I'm not sure who you know but your post couldn't be further from the truth. I've consulted to many houses over the years. I can also tell you first hand that Macquarie, Deutsche, ANZ, NAB, UBS, Shaws and numerous others all employ TA's.

Tricoms model was built around TA.

You are half right about fundamentals being the driver for buy/sell recommendations however that has far more to do with governance than choice. It would be naive to think that TA isn't at the back end of many of those calls.

I gave up long ago on the TA V FA debate. The truth is there isn't one. I have never met one person with a reasonably high level of technical knowledge that has said TA is not of value. The only people I have met that do claim TA is of no value have a lower level of technical skill and knowledge. The bottom line is those that want to develop will and those that don't won't. It is that simple and no amount of debate will change that.
