Wind power costs vary above and below grid cost due to a number of factors. Just a couple of examples-- not all.
TIME OF DAY
Along the coast of Yorke Peninsula you get consistent stong sea breezes springing up late in the morning but this often dies out into the evening as the sun sets and the dynamics that create the sea breese collapse.
WEATHER SYSTEMS
Passing high and low pressures generate a lot of wind. A few months ago we had 3 days of 40-50 kw with gusting higher peaks. We have 15 wind farms in Sth Aust that generally meet 20% of demand, but during the above days the farms where producing so much electricity so cheaply that the coal powered stations could not compete. Consequently 100% of state electricity came from wind power and the surplus exported interstate.
The state is targetiing 33% of electricity from wind
Here in Sth Aust one of our natural advantaged is our location in relation to weather systems. The other advantage is we have two gulf which set up sea breezes.
We are one of the hot spot around the world for generating wind power and that why we attract yhis type of investment
I wonder what carbon credits RXM can get.
