Pay your rates online
MORE THAN 52,000 ratepayers across the Shire will soon enjoy the convenience of paying their Council rates online.
From February residents can view their rates notice and make payments over the Internet on Council's website and through their own regular Internet banking sites.
Working with local company CommSecure, Hornsby Council has introduced the new technology to enhance customer service and respond to consumer trends.
Mayor of Hornsby Shire, Councillor John Muirhead, said more and more people were taking advantage of online banking and seeking the convenience of paying bills from home.
"The online viewing and payment system is great news for residents," the Mayor said.
"According to the latest census figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Hornsby Shire was shown to be leading Australia in embracing information technology. Internet usage was recorded at 51% compared to the national average of only 36%," the Mayor said.
"Residents will soon be able to make payments on Council's website, and also view and pay rates through their regular bank and credit union sites with the new BPAY View online facility," the Mayor said.
"Paying your rates over the Internet is fast, simple and convenient and residents need only go to Council's website at www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au from February," the Mayor said.
Electronic payments can be made by either using BPAY or a credit card.
Further information regarding the new service and BPAY View will be distributed with rates notices in early February.
Council will continue to post rates notices to residents. Payments can still be made at your local post office, by mail and phone, and over the counter at Council's Administration Centre.
