Do people here not know that Australia will always have a minimum percentage of unemployed people. From memory around 5 to 5.5% of the workforce. It is deliberately ensured in order to keep wages "under control".

This is done via interest charged on debt. Ever noticed how high our interest rates are compared to many other countries. The banks cry that it costs more for us to borrow money from foreigners, but that is only part of the story. The RBA obviously plays the greater role.

I was taught this at the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of NSW many years ago.

The reason that we have unemployment benefits is that the pollies fear that these people would turn to crime in order to support themselves. My thoughts are that the constant vilification against the unemployed is unwarranted, as well as the way they treated by Centrelink.
