Chrysalis,
Hi RamPage,
Perhaps you can substantiate your claim of only 100,000 being killed, with a link, although I doubt you will find one.
Just because Turkey refuses to acknowledge the killing fields does not mean it didn't happen.
"The killing of 1.5m Armenians by the Ottoman Turks during World War I remains one of the bloodiest and most contentious events of the 20th century, and has been called the first modern genocide.
In all, 25 concentration camps were set up in a systematic
slaughter aimed at eradicating the Armenian people - classed as "vermin" by the Turks.
Winston Churchill described the massacres as an "administrative holocaust" and noted: "This crime was planned and executed for political reasons. The opportunity presented itself for clearing Turkish soil of a Christian race."
Chillingly, Adolf Hitler used the episode to justify the Nazi murder of six million Jews, saying in 1939: "Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?"
Hi Chrysalis,
I didn't mention any thing about 100,000 being killed, so I can't help you there.
To be honest, I know very little about the Armenian event, how ever I do know a great deal about WW2 & Hitler and I had never heard of Hitler commenting on the Armenians, so I did a quick search and this is what I found.
The Tall Armenian Tale
The only other thing I know about Hitler and Armenians, is that the Wehrmacht had an Armenian division.
As for Churchill, well, I'll leave him for another thread.
In my previous post, I was just pointing out to you, that broad statements are easily tossed around, but can be very misleading.
