Looks like it has finally kicked off.

The Mali President called in the French on Friday after the rebels had accelerated their movement south and had taken control of more ground and it appeared they would not stop.

French started with air strikes and have mobilised ground forces. A French Special Forces soldier was killed on friday.

Best case scenario the French forces blow the rebels away quickly

Worst case scenario its war.

The French President has said they are there "for as long as it takes". hopefully a better result from intervention than Algeria or Afganistan. The US may also step in to assist.

I think overall this is actually good news.
