It is such a threshold issue, that commonsense tells me that Xstrata would have not wasted million dollars and a lot of time, if NCU were the reason to walk away.
Xstrata have an MO and usually get their resources cheaply. Also the Glencore merger may have influenced the decision.
I do think some of your comments especially about how overhyped CDU is, can be interesting but maybe you could make your points more briefly and post links for the interested instead of big slabs...
