Bit Of fun about to happen to the so called Captin
The Prime Minister yesterday explained her reason for ending Crossin's 15-year career: "There has never been an indigenous Australian who has served as a federal Labor representative. I'm determined that, at the 2013 election, we change that."
Any effort to increase Aboriginal representation in our federal parliament must be applauded. However, this move sounds more than a little like discrimination. Gillard's words make clear that, were Crossin an indigenous Australian, she would not have lost her job. According to the Racial Discrimination Act, it is unlawful to dismiss someone by reason of race, colour or national or ethnic origin. We await clarification on this from Attorney-General Nicola Roxon.
