If Germany was to repatriate its gold in one hit the idiots at Zerohedge and other loony websites would be screaming:

Bernanke has described the 8000 odd tonnes of US gold as 'traditional', the Germans have described their gold as 'symbolic'.

In other words if Germany and the USA didn't own any gold no one would miss it.
