minister slams eco warrior extremists - again, page-5

    "Chris Hartcher has spoken"

2:30 he scoffs at the then Liberal government for dismissing the science on CSG mining (his term (and one in popular useage (then as now))), but with scientific opinion divided nothing has really changed regarding this issue. This statement even predates (the published, peer-reviewed) work of Ingraffea, Howarth et al - how much moreso does it apply now?!?

2:52 "it is well known that in the northern Pilliga Forest there was massive environmental damage" Seems it isn't just me who describes the Bohena incident that way!

3:06 Wyoming "clearly demonstrates the disastrous problems with this industry in the experiencing of ground water loss and the contamination and waste water" I thought there wasn't any evidence of these issues - seems Hartcher had it in 2005!

3:30 "water is extensively used in ... gas mining"

3:55 "the ground water issue is not to be simply dismissed"

I particularly like the comments around 4:30 about the minister's empty rhetoric regarding CSG mining!

5:15 Was the then minister in breach of the EP&A Act? (I wonder what has changed - certainly not the legislation!)

6:50 Condemns the minister and the Liberal government in general for ignoring the decision of the Local Council and the local people and proceeding with "methane mining" regardless!!!

7:25 A process which "may well comply with the Act but doesn't comply with the will of the people"! And that without a plebiscite, conducted under the auspices of the Electoral Commission, which proved such an assertion! (And also without polling door-to-door which shows even more opposition.)

8:06 Refers to an opinion from the EDO! My how times change - seems back then the EDO was a respectable and competent community organisation which even an Alliance spokesman was happy to cite as an authority!

Then, as we all know, The Alliance defeated the Liberals in the next election. Of course there's a big difference to politicians campaigning and politicians elected.

These politickians seem to change their tune quite dramatically at times - a case of "whose bread I eat, his song I sing" perhaps? - but this is as good an example as I've seen!
