Tony Abbott's announcement today to cut $1.25b from education for 1.3 million families is indicative of his attitude towards public education - something he never experienced and often publicy denigrated by his mentor, John Howard.
Despite advice against doing so, Abbott couldn't even wait until after the May budget to stick the boot in; his slash and burn campaign against public education has already started.
The announcement demonstrates that Abbott sees public education as a cost and not as an investment in our young people.
Abbott's earlier comments about public education being comfortably funded have already proven a predictor of the ideologically inspired war he will wage against kids in public schools.
