how much of our "tax" dollars actually go to those in need in Australia...after OUR layers of government?

    Quite a lot actually.

I have quite a few relatives who have benefited from government.

One is a trained actuary and his wife a qualified pharmacist. He has worked a full time all since he graducted but his wife is a qualified pharmacist who worked 10 hours a week for years to get the family benefits. Sent one of their three kids to a high level entry public school and the other two to GPS elite schools. Of course tax planning and income splitting trust funds help a lot with all that. They all live in a multi million dollar mansion today that is fully paid off. Thanks Family Tax Benefit A and B. This family all vote Liberal.

Another relative of mine left school at 15 and began a trade. In her younger years she worked hard and saved up to buy a property in Melbourne. She paid the mortgage off in her 20's. She later got married and had a son. Her husband died 4 years into the marriage. She raised her son by herself and has been on benefits for the past 15 years. She has dialysis 3 days a week through diabetes and is blind. This family vote Labour.

Now it's time for me too weigh up who I should vote for? LOL
