A couple of years ago we put crim safe mesh on all windows and doors, it looks very little different to ordinary fly mesh. Our front door screen has three locks down the side so it can't be pried open. You can get them with quick release as well. We have safe escape in case of fire.
We can now go to sleep on hot nights with windows open, even the front door if we want. I can answer the front door without anyone being able to push their way in. We had an incident a few weeks back with a banging on the door at 3am, it was a young woman who said she felt threatened by some "men in a car", any way we gave her assistance without opening the door. The police told us that just the sight of the crim safe windows and doors is enough to usually turn away intruders. We often have alarms going off in the neighbourhood and no one ever investigates.I might add that we live in a very quite area, but you never know. My mum only had the box with the sucurity light and the stickers from a security company on her windows and never a problem.
