I feel that you really should know that hydrogen powered cars use the hydrogen in the fuel cell to make electricity, which drives an electric motor, so by my definition a hydrogen powered car is an electric car.
blooreeler, it was coal gas, half CO and half H2. They also had large bags on the roof to carry it. But it wouldn't run in today's engines with their high compression ratios.
