hi ufx,
the crater is from explosion not erosion, the long arms are from THE primary outpourings,
the crater and arms are similarly eroded.
to the west of shrader on the end of the island are two
UNEXPLODED VOLCANOES.
the whole island archepeligo has a myriad of volcanic craters.
lihir is described as a shield volcano...i bet they are all of similar age
in this case the porphories may have been blown off even.
but i,d suggest that any poly metallic material from melted mantle or subduction melt is to be found in the arms of the primary event before the top blew off.
why else is gold found in the streams of the valleys of the radiating arms.
with your stratovolcano dogmatic it must be in the centre,
will be helped with a cross section of what actually has come out and when.
the southern arms are probably only 500 metre thick at best.
of course a deep drilling of the northern big arm would be interesting also.
we have no idea of the drilling plans for andewa.
