Wow kincella... You have been busy. These are big jobs.

With the larger one with the dark patch to the left (remembering that I am an amateur but with lots of experience) is it possible to make the whole table darker? Insodoing, is it also possible to put a coat on up to but not over the existing dark patches (I.e paint around), then see how much difference in colour and whether it would be okay if you proceeded to then put a final coat over the lot to finish off. With the correct use of stain and some fine and precise paint work, so as not to darken patches any further, it may work??

The colour has worked well on the first table.

Sometimes I made my own 'knots' and trailing 'grain' with a bit of wood putty if I needed to balance the darker patches on the furniture which had resulted from doing spot repairs. This must have looked okay as I had people asking if I took orders....I did not of course as I'd have found that too stressful. It's one thing to stand back and look at your own work and feel pleasure and satisfaction but it's another thing to have someone else cast a critical eye over your work for which they would be paying you.

    Good luck...keep it up.

    Cheers...

Ps...Now that mantlepiece is going to be a totally different challenge...!!!
