The problem won't be addressed until after next election if Libs win and even then may be too late to unravel the tenders already let, infrastructure in place, default payments if slots, satellites, rockets not gone ahead with.
Newsat must press on and ignore NBN. Yes it is a shame and I have to wonder, when they only require [as I understand it] about 1/2 the capacity of only one satellite, what they intend to do with all the spare capacity. They argue [correctly] some is for redundancy and emergency purposes but it still leaves a massive amount that no commercial enterprise [and that is what it is] can possibly ignore.
Who will they get to fill the rest? Will we be competing against NBN who will be using NWT shareholders taxes to fill their capacity with clients we could have had? Perhaps also Australian Military - who knows.
Newsat must get out there and sign up as much capacity as possible before NBN mobilise a sales entity.
They may keep to themselves in as much as not taking on commercial clients and look toward social areas such as School of the Air, Flying Doctor, Medical conferencing, emergency services, etc.
It could be argued that had NBN not been going down the satellite road we may have picked up all those too but it is what it is and regardless of your views we can't change it.
I have great faith that if it can be rolled back at all then Malcolm Turnbull will do so. I have not had any joy from either Turnbull or Conroy however during conversations on their future plans regarding rollback or capacity utilisation.
AB has to get in first. In reality there is more than enough to go around but first in best dressed.
