That's thing I have no idea why people always refer to the DOW it's only 30 weghted average companies. It has never been a true reflection of the US economy.
Look at key numbers compared to Oct 2007
Unemployment 4.7% vs 7.9% (of course that number is fixed doesn't include those that are listed as no longer looking for work)
GDP Growth 3% vs -0.1% 4th quarter
Public debt to GDP 65% vs over 100% now.
And the much vaughted housing recovery is still significantly lower than 07
