Leading e-health company Pro Medicus (ASX:PME) announced today that it has achieved
clinical validation of its US digital imaging offering. This is the final step in commercialising the
system for the United States market.
The clinical validation follows the successful installation of the technology in July at a multi site
imaging centre group on the East coast.
“Development of our North American business continues to run to plan,” said Pro Medicus
CEO Dr Sam Hupert. "It has taken us just nine months from signing the Agfa contract to
having a working, validated site which is extremely fast even by US standards."
“Agfa's specialist imaging centre sales force can now go out and maximise our joint
commercial opportunities throughout the US. We think the product is a key differentiator and
feedback to date has been very positive,” said Dr Hupert.
The client, Hackensack Radiology Group (HRG) is a high-profile, four-site imaging centre
practice with remote affiliations including the “Hackensack Medical Center“ supporting the
Northern New Jersey/New York Metropolitan area. The practice conducts approximately
60,000 imaging procedures per year including, MR, CT, PET/CT, ultrasound, as well as
mammography, nuclear medicine, general x-ray/fluoroscopy and bone densitometry. The
group has 25 radiologists and provides sub-specialty expertise in all areas of radiology.
"HRG was a very challenging clinical validation site. The system supports more than 150
concurrent users spanning four locations in a fully integrated digital environment all of which
had to go live on day one. It was by no means a small or simple installation,” said Dr Hupert.
“The fact that our first site has been a complex one has been positive as HRG will make an
ideal reference site for our technology."
Around 400 million X-Ray scans are taken annually in the United States, compared to around
14 million in Australia with imaging centres comprising the fastest growing segment of the US
radiology market. There are currently around 5,000 imaging centres and over 3,000
community hospitals with standalone imaging departments with the number increasing by 12-
15% annually. Image numbers per centre are also increasing an average of 16% per annum.
The deal with Agfa is expected to generate minimum revenue of A$10 million for Pro Medicus
in the first three years with considerable upside based on sales volumes.
