I suppose an advantage for businesses is that sales may be forthcoming as people buy on credit and impulsively, usually for larger purchases than intended than if reliant on cash in their wallet.
Just for the record, I don't use cash. Even a newspaper is on credit card. All utilities/services are paid online as direct debit and I close of the balance each month. I only have cash when I have a small lotto win, which is rare!
