IMO, I think GJ will terminate the Hanlong bid (as advised by the NDRC).
The Chinese will lob a new offer via the SOEs.
I don't necessarily buy the story that the government is unhappy with HanLong. After all the mony for Talbot's stakes came from the CHINESE DEVELOPMENT BANK.
If the Chinese were appalled that HanLong pre-empted the SOE in making a bid, the money would NEVER have been forthcoming.
I stick by my conjecture that the smokes and mirrors (regarding Liu's detention) is China's positioning herself to defeat any counters.
