Ok thanks all I started from scratch again for the 8th time and for some reason that particular impasse just disappeared! I don't know why but happy about it.

New problem though I would like to sort via column heading but keep all data in all rows still whole.

For instance i have stock codes down the left and each stocks particular information is arranged left to right under the appropriate column heading like "market cap"....

I would like to sort high to low/a to z from any of those headings and have excel keep the stock row information whole.

ATM it sorts only a single column putting the data out of sync with the original stock it must remain belonging to.

I found a way to do it by highlighting all....and a few clicks later it works but that's pretty painful (and dangerous) when I should be able to just click on a column to do it and just know each row is intact as originally entered

I dunno..still painful for me, any ideas anyone.
