I remember well the effect the Asian financial crisis had on my mining stocks SPs back then it took several years for some to recover and many folded. About 1999-2000 from memory.
It caused a severe slump in our region and a recession in most East Asian countries from memory and affected Oz about as much as the GFC.
An example I recall on our ASX was the mining contractor Macmahon Holdings whose SP plummeted down from over a dollar to about 8.4c [check the historical charts] until eventually left Indonesia and concentrated on Australian Operations.
