Well if you believe in your own rhetoric then the picture fits most of you. The US abandoned the Shah their most trusted and closest ally in Iran, They abandoned the White South African regieme even though the whites relied on them and the number of promises the US profferred. The silver water treaty the treaties with britain, Holland, Nato in general and Germany.

The US allowed Ian Smiths regieme to fall as did Britain, They allowed the South Viet Names to go to waste, they have admitted that in the event of a hot war with China they would not be able to nor enter the war on Taiwan's side other than to provide support. They allowed Pinochette to go to hell and sold out Galtieri in the Falklands. More importantly they backed Saddam encouraged him to fight Iran to protect their interests in the Gulf, gave him wepons, chemicals and thenencouraged him to attack Kuwait. They then abandoned him.

Australia, yes all the way with the USA, but thats not what they are prepared to do with you. Australia is not as strategically important as Singapore to their iterests. In the end, US foreign policy is dictated by whether or not they can do business with a successor. In Australia they will. So your wild imagination that we have to rely on North Korea or China or someone else stems from the dependence, handout mentality that manifestst itself in the dole queues generally at street level.

True the Despots in the Middle East are a horrible bunch. But democracy in the Middle East is not what is good for US or British interests. It allows them to think for themselves and to make decisions which may not be so polarised as to allow a continued state of conflict and the continued draining of their resources to purchase weapons. 9/10ths of the Middle Eastern governments are there courtesy of US and British meddling.

Why not do what the Swiss or Singaporeans do? keep your friends close, Keep your enemies closer (so that you know what they are up to). It was not Korea, China or any other imagined demon that sent young Australians to a target practice range in gallipolli, it was her allies. Keep dreaming but lay of that stuff for gods sake. Too much of it makes you grow hairs in your palms.
