1010 [Dow Jones] Brambles (BIL.AU), last at A$8.63, in trading halt pending
release of a "significant transaction" announcement, expected during trading
today. Speculation centers on exit of underperforming European arm of its
Cleanaway waste management business for over A$1 billion, intensifying after
non-participation in sale of German rival RWE's asset sale last month. U.S.
private equity firm Blackstone Group mooted as possible buyer. BIL also
announced sale of plastic container business in U.S. last month. UBS and Merrill
Lynch have both lifted to over 5% in UK listed shares in last week as BIL poised
to enter FTSE 100, but down 1.2% in London overnight. (WEL)
