re: Ann: Dyesol Achieves Technical Breakthrou... Hi peter.farmer
...this article relates to your perovskite article - Gratzel and some Koreans playing with an inorganic-organic Perovskite as the sensitiser (ie. intead of a ruthenium dye). Thanks for the pointer with the Oxford Uni work...

The diagram and SEM picture in this article is pretty cool - looks like we're heading in this direction - changes the original picture of a 3D mesoporous lattice of TiO2 coated in a ruthenium dye swimming in a liquid electrolyte of a redox couple of I-/I3- between electrodes.
I think the picture now is the perovskite compound as the light energy harvesting layer coated on the Tio2 and buried in a matrix of solvent free polymer electrolyte (paraphrased from some of the intro paragraphs in the above article).
Nanotube wires and quantum dots and all the other lab based jiggery pokery is great fun and will probably ultimately take things to a new level but at the moment being able to cheaply print grid competitive and genuinely robust and long-life solar cells onto roofing steel with an R2R (reel-to-reel) process looks like it might be in DYE's reach.
If there's any nanotech chemists lurking can you clarify this? Or at least get these little crawling bots out from under my skin...they make me itch and they steal my dreams...
yeah baby...
