    boatboy and others,

I think the simulation is purely and simply a graphical representation of the average download and upload speeds quoted by the different technologies.

I think the aim is to completely sidestep technical jargon and show the viewer (in a format EVERYONE is familiar with - eg, the download progress bar) the different speeds.

Simulation a farce? Well, it would take about 30 seconds to work it out. Take, for example, the game of thrones download...

File is a certain size, full HD, 2GB

labor NBN is 1000 Mega BITS per second = 125 Mega BYTES per second

    2000 Megabyte file / 125 megabytes per second = 16 seconds

    Seems right to me.

    To KLEM,

"I think that is a farce that simulation, i get as quick if not quicker with 1.5mbps on my system.???????"

Your sentence is a farce. I'm pretty sure I learnt the basic algebra to disprove your statement around grade 6 / year 7

1.5 mega bits per second = 0.1875 megabytes per second

    total time to download 2gb file = 10666 seconds = 2.96 hours

It is BASIC / SIMPLE / FUNDAMENTAL misunderstandings like this that makes complex policy like the NBN totally incomprehensible to the (very) average aussie.

"you taking light and sending it down glass straws and making the internet work faster??? Now that don't make no sense at all - everyone knows glass is for WINDOWS! ... herp derp"
