You might be interested in the article about break through insulin research involving the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne.
The discussion about the insulin hormone binding to the insulin receptor reminded me of Watt's description of drug discovery;
"Drug discovery is really just a matter of finding the right shape to bind it to the drug target that is causing the disease."
The article does suggest that there could be a race for new insulin drugs following the discovery of the binding process.
