THE cost of Bass Strait gas continues to rise as southern producers take advantage of a looming shortage of eastern Australian gas driven by Queensland's planned coal-seam gas export plants.

Lumo Energy will buy 22 petajoules of gas from Exxon and BHP, which industry sources say have been the most aggressive of the gas suppliers in chasing export parity pricing.
