LOL...I had one!...a 79' XD. The fact that they were still dropping off through to the XF is typical of the DGAT.
The fault was that assembled handle was held together by a weakly pressed end. I bought 2 and on the 3rd the automotive store had 200 on back order! I ended up drilling through the weak die cast stem, used a nut/bolt and tack welded the nut locked.
