Apart from our reliance on foreign oil, the middle east is totally irrelevant. They are an anachronism. They have nothing we need. Technology, research, agriculture, manufacturing etc etc etc???? they have absolutely nothing.
APART from an ocean of oil that they happen to be standing above.
Fine - let's elevate ourselves away from needing oil. As soon as this happens, the regimes in these areas will drift rapidly into obsolescence.
