I have a friend who had to have massive cartilidge damage removed (cause from being bow legged) and leg straighted to use the undamaged part of the knee joint. He has had to be on gradually reducing dosages of endone for quick pain relieve and a morphine like drug for longer term pain relief for several months.
I would suggest that after only 2 weeks, you are still only at the beginning of the long haul. Based on my friend's experience, I can only suggest that you hang in there because it will be worth it in the end. However, don't expect to be permanently without pain.
I asked my friend, why he wasn't given an artificial knee "replacement". Apparently, according to the doctors, a knee replacement is only an option for when the recipient is so old that the only workout he/she does is walking around the house and doing the gardening. When you are young (55ish in ths case of my friend), you are way to active and the knee replacement might only last 5 years.
