However, the market is already taking a punt that Kiernan's future will include ASX-listed tiddler Monarch Resources, where he sits on the board, along with ConsMin chairman Colin Smith and non-executive director David Macoboy, and Philip Botsis.
Kiernan's son floated Monarch a couple of years ago when "it looked like ConsMin may be taken over and I'd be thrown out on the street and no-one would give me a job".
"ConsMin has since grown from strength to strength and certainly I think that once I step down from ConsMin I will have a modest involvement in Monarch," Kiernan said.
It seems others think so as well. Shares in Monarch, which has released one set of drill results so far this year - on March 1 - were trading five cents higher at 33 cents by mid-afternoon.
They have soared over the past week from around 20 cents.
