When Telstra rolled out the hybrid cable, 10 years or so ago, many of the asbestos pits (not all), were replaced then in my area. Looked to be similar methods used from what I saw on TV, men in protective suits and lots of plastic sheeting.

Unless the workers were belting the asbestos around with sledge hammers I'm not sure what the fuss is about. Perhaps people with too much time on their hands creating a stir.

Recently some asbestos drainage pipes were removed locally near houses and someone complained to the shire council. The reply from the council was well " shut your windows then"

I guess its a catch 22, people rightly are terrified of asbestos in or near their homes, but its difficult to remove and make the area safe without creating more risk.
