It must have been a harrowing 3 three years for the girls from the initial arrest to a conviction, especially when they were out on parole.
From the story website:
"It was the police investigation that stunned Britain. Young men of Pakistani heritage grooming young girls with the intention of abusing them, gang raping them and then trading them with other groups of men. How could it happen in modern Britain?
In part, the answer lies in a perverse form of reverse racism, where authorities that knew potential crimes were being committed would not acknowledge what was happening, fearful it would fuel a right-wing backlash and racial violence."
So it was racism that meant that authorities did not act sooner. Not conventional racism but reverse racism.
The men were from Muslim backgrounds and they were passing the girls around to other men of different ethnic but also Muslim backgrounds, the story also mentioned Bengali perpetrators.
What a sad world we live in were the young and vulnerable are physically abused and the authorities do not act because of PC into overdrive.
