Todays press states that approx. $17 Billion is sitting unclaimed in Superannuation accounts in Aus., a rise of some $700Million in a year. I cannot believe that some real attempt is being made to reunite these funds with their true owners. The news article stated that the owners cannot be contacted by the Super funds, due to their having moved on, etc. , and are thus claimed to be in the LOST category. Stated also was that the Govt. is using Tax File Numbers, etc in attempting to contact them. Why cannot a full list of names be published in the press over a period of time so that owners, or friends or family who recognise names could see them .This BS re privacy just goes too far. Rightful owners would be identified before payment, etc, of course. A letter box leaflet would also help, I believe, before the Govt. legislates to confiscate the lot to Consolidated revenue !!
