"In saying that there is also new members of council now who are well and truely against, a couple of the old members may of been able to be talked around"
Council has diddly-squat say in the mine, it is a State issue, and believe me when I a say that Victoria will be in the poo if they dont start earning export income. They have a decimated manufacturing sector and things are turning ugly.
"Not sure if you have seen the existing mine or not but that is 1 massive hole, ( getting filled very quickly as I said)"
The northern end is being used as a rubbish tip, well away from the State declared reserved coal resource. Interesting that the locals dont seem to concerned with a pile of crap being buried on top of the water table.
"So to get 1.6b tonnes out with all that overburden I would hate to see the size it will need to be,"
Strip mining, the most likely method would not involve digging a big hole. It involves taking a strip of overburden and filling in the previously mined area.
"The lady Mrs Tubbs, yes I know you would of heard of her, she wont lay down, trust me when I say that. She will fight this to the bitter end, she is very popular in town aswell,"
Ms Tubbs knew there was a coal deposit under her property when she bought it, buyer beware. Only a fool would buy a piece of land above a known coal deposit and expect the State to leave a multi-billion dollar project in the ground when they are hemorrhaging jobs and are in a worse position than Greece in regards to exports to imports.
