In the end as a vendor you make the final decision as to who you list with. If you don't like an agents commission shop around - quite often though like with everything in life - you get what you pay for.
If you're still not willing to pay for their service then sell the property yourself and you'll pay - wait for it - no commission.
And as for expensive marketing expenses once again this is totally at your discretion - don't like print media - have the property listed only on the internet. You'll save plenty.
