The probation analogy is a good one...
When you are on probation, you usually have to report in every so often to let people know what is going on and that you are staying on the straight and narrow.
If the probationer doesn't report in, there is usually only one conclusion to be drawn - something is amiss.
There are 6 days to the year end - my prediction is that this is the countdown to a truly appalling announcement of some kind.
The market can sense it coming, and that's why the price is falling.
