I think through sensible diplomacy and targeted aid the Australian government could stop the murderers in the people smuggling trade.

Sharing of knowledge when it comes to making vessels sea-worthy will only drive the price up for people smugglers.
Make them pay and make it price prohibitive to those considering the option.

Our customs service has become a joke as highlighted by 4 corners.

Many people who arrive with a passport overstay there visa whilst in Australia. But at least the government know who they are.

Not in the case of those who arrive by boat.

That is a massive security problem.
