The biggest crime in the whole NBN crap sandwich was the nationalising of telecoms in Australia again.

Telstra was a hugely successful privatisation which created a lot of wealth for ordinary australians, and Australian telecoms prospered under the market model. Along came Conroy with an open chequebook and lo and behold the nationalisation of telecoms, along with his crazy ideas for an internet filter, all manner of snooping and other control freakery.

The internet is an open road my eye. Just try and upload stuff to China and see how far you get.

The lag in accessing sites in the USA is not going to be fixed by fibre in Australia, its all about latency at the big nodes and undercapacity in the trunk lines across the ocean floor. Accessing stuff in Australia will speed up but you are only addressing part of the problem. I feel this has been discussed endlessly.

Whatever happens in the next six years, I cant see Conroys plan being built which means it is a huge white elephant. Until the project is rolled out according to real economic need and not to political agendas (Tony Windsors electorate being a priority NBN rollout? What a joke) it is flawed.

I would pay for a fibre connection to my house in perth but if others dont want to, the government should have no obligation to supply it.
