Air purification company AFT Corp Ltd believes its air sterilisation technology can keep people safe in the event of a bird flu pandemic.

AFT technology director Andy Beckett said the Microgenix air steriliser can destroy up to 100 per cent of the viruses in the air on each pass through the system.

"Microgenix air sterilisers can literally make the air safe to share again," Mr Beckett said.

He said airborne viruses spread by coughs and sneezes are likely to be a significant cause of infections in enclosed spaces.

"Microgenix air sterilisers can quickly reduce the number of viruses in the air and therefore reduce the risk of infection, slowing or preventing the spread of the disease."

The Microgenix product range includes units that can be plugged into a standard power point and can be installed anywhere - from schools and hospitals to shopping centres and private homes.

AFT was the most traded stock on Thursday with 141.9 million shares traded, valued at a total of $4.97 million.

The stock fell half a cent to 3.1 cents.
