Wholesale gas prices in OZ have been very low by world pricing standards due to the fact that our relatively small gas market has for many years been overlooked by the big international players.
Gas typically wholesales in OZ at around 3 to 4 dollars a gigajoule.
The east coast consumes about 8 terjoules a year.
The new Gladstone export facility alone, required 14 terajoules a year to be considered a viable project.
Gladstone is one of a number of such export initiatives.
All profits going to the overseas project operators.
Gas WILL rise in OZ VERY SHORTLY to a WORLD MARKET PRICE.
That price is 12 dollars per gigjoule.
Japan for instance has a gas wholesale price of 14 dollars per gigajoule.
USA rejected moves by the multi national gas moguls when they attempted to do this over there, with their govt stating that it would have a detremenal effect on industry as well as domestic users.
With the wholesale price about to triple here in OZ,,,,will it be an energy triple cripple ?
Will clean gas peak load power stations be priced out of existence ?
