Greenhart is right. Air travel is much
safer than car travel in Canberra too.
Within a two minutes drive from our
Canberra home, there are three road
crash death memorials to remind us
that life is fleeting. Canberra drivers
leave home, and never get back, or
they leave work or a pub or a church
and they never return to that place.
In times past, soon after a fatal road
crash, the sand used to soak up oil,
glass shards and blood was swept
up and the vehicles towed away to
leave no evidence of the fatality.
Today we're reminded (all over Canberra)
where people died with new memorials.
I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.
But the ACT Government is reluctant to
interfere with grief - so the memorials
get more numerous as more people die.
