A very old goldminer once told me (many years ago) that he had spent months digging a 30 metre shaft down through the hardest ground, looking for the elusive gold reef.
Finally he was exhausted and had run out of money so he
sold the mine for a pittance.
The new owner dug just 15cms more and struck the jackpot.
The old goldminer said that from then on, every time he felt like giving up...he dug down another 20 cms.
